Greetings! Welcome to our January newsletter. The end of 2010 came with renewed optimism. Stock market and retail sales were up and the unemployment rate is slowly decreasing. This is the year to stay active and connect with renewed energy. January begins the celebration of our fifteen years in business! We thank you for your support and look forward to supporting you in 2011. In this issue:
Ted Williams-homeless and down on life. Alcohol, drugs and run-ins with law enforcement were part of his history. We are fascinated. We want a success story. We are filled with hope that someone in these economic times can make it big. We watch eagerly waiting to see what is in store for him. We hope that this time he will succeed. Mr. Williams certainly has what appears to be the right stuff this time. A manager is now helping him with decisions from the numerous job offers pouring in. The famous Dr. Phil is offering rehabilitation and a dentist is assisting him with dental work. Support seems to be surrounding him and lifting him up. Why are so many of us glued to this feel good story? I believe with the home foreclosures, bankruptcies, job losses and other challenges that this economy has brought that we are looking for a glimmer of hope. The glimmer of hope that someone, somewhere will rise above the overwhelming burdens that surround them and turn around their life circumstances. What if we sought out the Ted Williams in our companies? What if we tried to find the employee that was just on the edge, possibly struggling with financial issues, poor performance reviews and just not making it at work and home? What if we found that person and gave them support and resources that could help them turn their situation around? Would we celebrate? Would we hold the employees' story up as part of what our company stands for and say, "Yes, we are willing to help." Often times, we take the employee who is on the edge and say, "You're fired." In many cases this may be what should be done. What, if we really reflected on the whole story of the employee and gave them a chance? How might that very act impact other employees? Would it motivate them and give them hope? Perhaps, this is the year to seek out, metaphorically, a Ted Williams in your company. You might be surprised at the outcome!
